Report: Lebanon's Alarming Response Following the Dahieh Strike
The most recent Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs "are far from being the final ones," according to a Lebanese diplomatic source who spoke with Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
"In recent hours, Lebanon has been receiving disturbing indications suggesting that Tel Aviv intends to continue its policy of targeted killings," the source stated.
Israel "has also assumed the responsibility of dismantling Hezbollah's military equipment, provided that the actions of the Lebanese government continue to be inadequate," the source further stated.
"The United States believes that the Lebanese state continues to steer clear of confrontation with Hezbollah, and up until now, the government hasn’t managed to comply with the enforcement of UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 1559, which plays a crucial role within Resolution 1701," the source stated.
In the meantime, Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji stepped up communication with key nations, particularly the United States, aiming to halt Israeli assaults after the second Israeli air raid targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to a source from the Foreign Ministry speaking to Asharq al-Awsat.
Even though it hasn’t had much effect in completely stopping Israel’s escalating actions permanently, Lebanese diplomacy still has the potential to play a significant role in controlling or limiting Israeli aggression," Former Lebanese Ambassador to the U.S., Antoine Chedid, explained to the daily newspaper. "At the very least, this can help ensure that Beirut and its surrounding areas remain protected from assaults.
