Morocco on Alert: Unstable Weather Looms in Coming Days

In the upcoming days, Morocco will experience fluctuating weather patterns as forecasted by the Directorate General of Meteorology. This includes intermittent rain showers, gusty winds, and changes in temperatures across various areas.

Rainfall will occur sporadically across various regions such as Souss, the Atlas Mountains, the northern and central plains, the Rif region, Tangier, Loukkos, and along the western Mediterranean coastline on Wednesday.

In the northwestern parts of the Saharan provinces, light rains might appear as well. The eastern area could experience low cloud coverage and fog during nighttime, whereas the central and southeast zones may face sporadic sandstorms. Strong winds can gust over the northern and central flatlands along with the southern territories. Peak temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 10°C and 16°C in mountainous locations, hover around 22°C to 28°C in both the southeastern and Sahara-like settings, and sit within 16°C to 22°C across other regions.

On Thursday, persistent low clouds with early morning fog will affect the eastern area and the Mediterranean coastline, whereas partially cloudy skies will prevail across the northern and central regions of the plains, along with the Phosphate Plateau and the Atlas Mountains. Overnight precipitation in the form of light rain or isolated showers is forecast for Tangier, the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, the Rif mountains, Chiadma, and Souss.

Sandstorms are expected to persist in central and southern areas. Powerful wind gusts, reaching severe levels at times, will impact the central plains, Souss, northern parts of the Sahara region, both the Small and High Atlas mountains, southeast zones, and eastern sections of Morocco. Early morning temperatures will be between 2°C and 8°C in the Atlas area, and 8°C to 14°C in other locations, accompanied by an overall increase in afternoon temperatures.

By Friday, rainfall will spread across larger areas, notably affecting Tangier, Loukkos, the Rif region, the western Mediterranean coastline, Saïss, the Middle Atlas, and Souss. Isolated showers will likewise impact the northern and central plains as well as the High Atlas area.

Dust storms will continue in certain central and southeastern zones, accompanied by robust gusts in the northern and central flatlands, Tangier, the Rif area, as well as portions of the southeast and eastern territories. The mercury will climb along the Mediterranean coastline and in southern sectors but fall elsewhere.

Between Saturday and Tuesday, unpredictable weather conditions will persist. On Saturday, isolated showers are forecast for Tangier, the High Atlas region, and areas further south. The northern parts of the country will experience mostly clear skies from Sunday through Tuesday. Strong winds will remain prevalent in the Atlas mountains, southeast regions, and eastern Morocco during this period. Throughout the week, temperatures are anticipated to increase progressively.
