Lagos Leads in NIN Registrations as Nigeria Reaches 117 Million Marks

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reported a significant accomplishment, indicating that more than 117 million Nigerians have been registered for the National Identity Number (NIN) by February 28, 2025.

Lagos State took the lead with more than 12.6 million registrations, trailed closely by Kano State which had 10.2 million registrations.

Based on the most recent statistics from NIMC, males constitute a larger portion of the enrollees with 56.5%, totaling 66,281,803 individuals. Females represent 43.5% of the registrations, amounting to 51,079,521 people.

The report underscored regional enrollment patterns, indicating a nearly balanced allocation between Nigeria’s northern and southern areas.

Nevertheless, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti states showed the least enrollments, with Bayelsa recording only 758,111 registrations.

In the registration statistics, Lagos State led significantly with 6,870,915 male registrants and 5,741,419 female registrants. Following behind was Kano, which recorded 5,924,126 males and 4,321,929 females among its total of 10.2 million registrations.

Other prominent states within the top 10 encompass Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, and Rivers. The NIMC showed confidence in enhancing registration numbers in less represented areas over the upcoming months.
