Assembly of God Elementary School Faces Financial and Educational Hurdles

The Assembly of God Elementary School located in Lower Margibi County is encountering difficulties that jeopardize its capacity to keep offering educational services to the nearby children.

The educational facility situated in District #2 caters to areas like Boakia Town, Garyeazohn Town, and Hydro. Although it stands alone in providing online education within this area, it now confronts a severe funding shortfall, leaving numerous households incapable of covering the enrollment costs.

Consequently, only 36 students remain enrolled, covering grades from kindergarten through fourth grade. Principal Abraham M. Dorley pointed out the challenging learning environment, which includes damaged blackboards and inadequate seating for the pupils.

He urgently appealed to civil society groups, non-governmental organizations, and governmental authorities for assistance in enhancing the school’s facilities and aiding families with educational expenses. “Seeing our potential leaders deteriorate within their communities because they can’t afford schooling pains me greatly,” Dorley stated.

Established in the 1970s, the Hydro Assembly of God Elementary School suffered significant damage during the civil conflict but was reconstructed in 2010. This educational facility runs with minimal personnel: six individuals comprising five instructors and one custodian, each receiving a monthly salary of 2,000 Liberian dollars. Financially, the school depends largely on support from parents since it doesn’t obtain outside assistance.

Dorley advocated for increased communal involvement to tackle the education emergency, encouraging participants to intervene and guarantee that local children have the chance to achieve their academic aspirations. He stated, "The work my educators and I are committed to is fueled by love, passion, and dedication to our hometown."
