Yemen Conflict: Houthi Attack on US Navy Ships Thwarted — Official
A U.S. official has verified that an assault involving missiles and drones, carried out by Yemen's Houthi faction as revenge for recent American air strikes, did not succeed in striking any U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis claimed on Sunday to have fired 18 ballistic missiles and a drone at the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier group during two separate attacks over the past 24 hours.
The organization stated that the mission successfully prevented a hostile assault the adversary was planning to initiate against our nation.
Nevertheless, an official from the United States informed ABC News that just 11 drones and a single ballistic missile were launched, none of which constituted a danger to American vessels.
As reported by the official, all incoming drones were successfully intercepted: ten of them were brought down by Air Force fighter jets and another one by a Navy aircraft. However, the ballistic missile failed to reach its intended target and did not get intercepted either.
A fresh series of U.S. air strikes in Yemen initiated on Saturday led to an attempt at retaliation. President Donald Trump characterized the offensive as "a strong and decisive military move" targeting the Iran-supported Houthi militia.

They have launched a continuous assault involving piracy, violence, and terror against vessels, aircraft, and drones belonging to America and others," Trump stated on March 15 via his social media platform, Truth Social. "Until we reach our goals, we will employ decisive deadly force.
A U.S. representative verified that numerous Houthi locations across Yemen, such as missile installations, radar networks, and drone and air defense facilities, were targeted during the military action. This series of attacks was characterized by the official as an initial strike intended to send a forceful signal to Iran.
According to Tribune Online, the Houthi health ministry stated that 53 people died as a result of recent US-led air strikes in Yemen, which included five children among the victims.
While addressing journalists onboard Air Force One on Sunday, President Trump stated that he was unconcerned regarding possible retaliations following the airstrikes.
Mike Waltz, the national security advisor, stated on ABC’s show "This Week" that the mission represented an extensive attack specifically aimed at eliminating several key Houthis. He emphasized two critical aspects: targeting the Houthi leadership and attributing responsibility to Iran.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Houthis declared that they would "keep prohibiting the transit of Israeli vessels through their operational area until the blockade of the Gaza Strip is removed."
