Russia's Demands for Ceasefire in Ukraine Conflict
Russia has presented six requirements for a truce in its continuing conflict with Ukraine, which started on February 24, 2022.
The main requirements consist of prohibiting Ukraine’s accession to NATO and withdrawing NATO peacekeeping forces from Ukrainian soil.
Moreover, Russia maintains that Ukraine needs to be demilitarized, and other countries should stop providing weaponry to Kyiv. A key requirement put forth is for the Ukrainian forces active in Russia’s Kursk Oblast to lay down their arms.
Finally, Russia demands that the global community acknowledge Crimea and the seized Donbass areas as part of Russian territory.
In the meantime, Washington is pushing for a rapid 30-day cease-fire after talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which is part of continuing global initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict.
