Paris [France], March 17 (ANI): Belgian actress Emilie Dequenne , who won the Best Actress award at Cannes In 1999, following her breakthrough role in the film 'Rosetta,' she died at the age of 43, as reported by Deadline.

In October 2023, the actress disclosed that she was fighting a rare form of cancer affecting the adrenal glands. Her agency representative, Danielle Gain, informed AFP that the actress passed away in a hospital near Paris on Sunday night, according to reports from the news source.

Dequenne was born on August 29, 1981, and began her studies at the Music & Spoken Word Academy in Baudour, Belgium, when she was young. At just 12 years old, she started engaging with drama and also joined the La Releve Theatre group.

She secured her debut film role at 17 in "Rosetta." That very year, she also won Best Actress at Cannes For her role as the young protagonist residing in a caravan with an intoxicated mother, the movie earned the Dardenne brothers their inaugural Palme d'Or, according toDeadline.

During the 2000s, Emilie was highly coveted by both producers and directors. She starred in Christophe Gans' historical thriller 'The Brotherhood of the Wolf' and also featured in Claude Berri's film 'The Housekeeper'.
